“Where Are All the Old Buildings At?” by Andrew Weil (2026 Fall Lecture Series)
October 21 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
FreeRSVP - Andrew Weil 2026 Fall Lecture
Lecturer: Andrew B. Weil, RearView Heritage Consulting
Date: Wednesday, Oct. 21st, 2026 @ 6:00 PM
Location: Landmarks Office, 1805 S. 9th Street, Saint Louis, MO 63104
Andrew Weil will revisit some of the oldest buildings, building-types and patterns of development in St. Louis with his presentation on vernacular architecture. “Vernacular architecture” refers to building forms and styles that were carried as culture by craftsmen rather than learned through formal architectural training. The lecture will examine some early building types in St. Louis; where they were, where they are, and where they might still be found. The discussion will also provide broad historical context about the physical growth of the City and how development pressures, both positive and negative, have impacted where our oldest vernacular buildings survive.
Andrew Weil is the former Executive Director of the Landmarks Association of St. Louis, where he dedicated nearly 20 years to historic preservation. A trained archaeologist, he authored 28 National Register nominations and successfully protected irreplaceable city heritage.
