Board of Directors’ Statement on the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial

Landmarks Association of St. Louis, Inc. supports a transparent planning process for the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial that would be open to a wide range of public input and the counsel of design professionals. Goals should include an independent evaluation of current conditions including the relationship of the Memorial to the Gateway Mall and to Laclede's and Chouteau's Landings in order to develop realistic options for improved access and to present alternatives for sustainable enhancements that respect the historic landscape. 

The architectural, historical and environmental ramifications of any alteration to this National Historic Site require much deliberation.
